Village Chiropractic is committed to offering our patients the latest chiropractic technologies to reduce pain and improve their quality of life. This is why we now offer Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy (MyACT) as part of our pain management program.

What is Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy?

Myofascial acoustic compression is a highly efficient, non-surgical treatment that promotes the healing of chronic or acute pain in muscles, joints, and tendons. Myofascial means muscle tissue (myo) and the surrounding connective tissue (fascia).

When stressed or injured, muscles often form trigger points — sore spots in the soft tissue — that can result in pain, stiffness and tension, physical limitation, and loss of normal function. These can be difficult to treat, however, since the source of pain isn’t always clear.

With MyACT, acoustic waves compress and manipulate tissue, precisely targeting it at a cellular level. This is a form of sound wave therapy. Over the course of several treatments, MyAct can lead to increased circulation and pain relief, which are critical components in the healing process. Unlike ultrasound, the sound waves used in acoustic compression therapy are 1,000 times more concentrated and can be adjusted to your needs.

How is MyACT Therapy Administered?

During this therapy, the Village Chiropractic therapist identifies the painful area and applies a thin coat of coupling gel to help translate the acoustic sound waves to the body. At first, the treatment will be administered at a low output setting through a device placed on the body.

Gradually, they will increase to a power level that best addresses your specific condition. The depth and type of tissue being treated determine the overall output level and acoustic wave frequency rate. As the therapist moves the therapy tool around the treatment area, you will be asked to report any time you feel a deep, dull ache so the intensity can be modified to your tolerance. If the treatment becomes uncomfortable at any time, notify the therapist so they can adjust the output level. After the treatment, the chiropractor removes the coupling gel, and you can return to normal activities. Side effects are limited to minor aches or discomfort after treatment and flushed or reddened skin around the treatment site.

A typical treatment session with MyACT takes between 10 and 20 minutes, 1 to 2 times per week. Some patients may need 3-5 treatments before lasting improvement is achieved. Acute pain, however, may only require a single session.
